Keeping Pets
There is no denying the fact that keeping pets is a hotly debated topic today. Some people claim that keeping pets is a good thing to do. They believe that pets, like cats and dogs, can help relieve the loneliness suffered by senior citizens and other social members who are confined to their homes for this reason or that. They also argue that keeping pets helps mankind understand animals’ world and develop positive feelings toward them.
Others, however, hold the opposite view. They regard keeping pets as a useless but harmful thing to do. First, pets can transmit diseases. Secondly, the noises and dung of pets are sources of pollution. Last but not least, as many rare birds and animals are kept as pets, they will surely be hunted on a large scale, which means a threat to the balance of the ecosystem.
Weighing the arguments of both sides, I am inclined to agree with the latter. Anyway, we can lessen our loneliness and express our love toward animals in other ways. And it is my belief that only by placing man and other species on an equal basis can we expect to have a lively and colorful world.

Some classmates agreed with the opinion of keeping pets at home in cities because different kinds of pets puts more excitement into our lives.Not only can people live in harmony with animals, but also pets are great comfort to many lonely elderly people.
Others opposed to this view because keeping pets at home in cities will cause city environment pollution and make noisy even to hurt people which will cause public panic and anxious.
In my humble opinion,animals are peoples` best friends.They bring a lot of happiness to people,staying every day with your family.But people are ought to manage their pets to prevent emergencies and government should bring in new laws to help citizen to manage their pets well.

人在生活中有各種樂趣，我以前同時養過植物和寵物。但是直到最近我才意識到前者更加容易養而且不費勁。他們能夠同樣的給生活增添樂趣，植物能夠自己活著，更省錢。就我認為，養植物比養寵物更有樂趣。
Firstly， plants are less energy—consuming than pets， which need to be fed several times a day， and some of which need to be walked early in the morning。 But for plants， regular watering and fertilizing will do， provided they are placed in appropriate places with proper sunshine。 However， pets need constant care and training so as to form good habits， or they may go wild。 As to plants， no such worries are involved。
第一，植物比寵物省勁，寵物需要一天喂幾次，有些還要早早地帶出去散步。但是植物，只要按時澆水，施肥就行了，把它們放在合適的地方，曬點太陽就成了。然而，寵物需要不間斷的照顧還有訓練好習慣，不然它們就會很野。對于植物，這些都不用擔心。
Secondly， plants consume less money than pets。 You have to spend a considerable amount of money buying pet food， toys and other accessories。 Some people even compare that sum of money to the expenses of raising a child。 When pets fall ill， they need to be sent to the special hospital for pets， which are also quite expensive。 In this sense， plants are very economical to grow in terms of the same purpose of producing joy and beauty to people’s daily life。

All in all， plants make better enjoyment than pets， since they are easier to handle， less expensive and troublesome。 Take the above reasons into account， the next time you think of raising something for fun， plants should be a better choice， unless you have too much free time to kill。

In the first place, pets can keep such a good company to people so as to bring pleasure and drive away loneliness. Pet owners involve people of different ages and backgrounds. And the animals people raise vary from dogs, cats, birds to fish and pigs. After a long period of staying together, people view their lovely and faithful pets as old friends and even as family members. With the quickening tempo of life, people grow emotionally more fragile and need more comfort than ever, especially childless couples, children in high buildings, old people living alone and etc. . Even in happy and healthy families, keeping pets brings more than just pleasure to life. Kids can learn how to love and take care of others from living together with their animal friends.
In the second place, some pets can perform a variety of services such as guarding houses, providing professional assistance and so on. As an intelligent and faithful animal, dogs have been trained to be doorkeepers since long time ago. It is reported in the newspaper that when a thief attempted to break into an empty apartment, a brave pet dog clung to his trousers and bit him in the leg. As a result, he could not help crying out of pain and was caught by the neighbors. And it is also known that some pet dogs and monkeys serve as personal assistants to disabled people. Having received some special training, they can follow simple instructions from their masters and provide faithful company to human friends.
From what has been discussed above, the benefits of keeping pets speak for themselves. In spite of the large population in China, keeping pets will not interfere with the well being of people. On the contrary, the payoff is worth the effort. Therefore, bearing all the comfort and assistance these lovely animals have brought us, I hope that a second thought is given to the abolition of keeping pets.
